Detroit Henry Ford used a huge second-half to turn a close boys basketball contest into an 80-48 runaway victory over Detroit Allen Academy on Friday in the Sixth Annual Detroit Public School League Holiday Hoops Classic at Detroit Renaissance.

Henry Ford led 16-9 at the end of the first quarter and took a 35-25 advantage into halftime. But Henry Ford widened the gap after numerous turnovers and fast-break points ignited a pair of 10-0 runs, giving it a commanding 60-35 lead heading into the fourth.

"The first half was kind of close because we were feeling each other out," Henry Ford coach Kenneth Flowers said. "In the second half, we came out and dominated. We turned up the defensive pressure and the score ballooned from there."

According to Flowers, one major point of emphasis in the second half was slowing down Allen Academy guard Jason Williams Jr.

"Jason is a good guard and we wanted to take the ball out of his hands," Flowers said. "It was a collective assignment to shut him down. We double-teamed him and wore him down. We would have one kid on him for three or four plays and then switch."

James Towns led Henry Ford with 20 points and four assists, while Joshua Davis (Western Michigan) recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

"Josh was doing it all for us. He was all over the place," Flowers said. "James had a point guard matchup with Jason and it was a real good game between those two. (Josh and James) did a good job stopping Jason, and we went from there."

Williams finished with 21 points for Allen Academy (1-2).

With the win, Henry Ford is off to its first 5-0 start since 2008.
