Detroit Loyola went into enemy territory and stayed undefeated in Catholic League AA play with a 63-53 boys basketball victory Monday over Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard.
Senior forward Harvey Caddell had 21 points and five steals to lead Loyola (9-2, 4-0), which created separation in the third quarter with its defense after a back-and-forth first half.
"He's our emotional leader out there," Loyola coach John Buscemi said. "Every time we needed a big play, he came through."
Loyola outscored Gabriel Richard, 19-13, in the third quarter to take a seven-point lead.
Gabriel Richard (5-5, 1-3) struggled from the floor in the second half but was able to stay within striking distance thanks to going 17-for-20 from the free-throw line.
Detroit Public Safety Academy 66, Inkster Peterson Warren Academy 62: Mike Smith scored 20 for Public Safety (5-9). Donovan Baxter had 33 points for Peterson Warren (3-4).
Harrison Township L'Anse Creuse 64, Eastpointe East Detroit 56 (OT): Max Cook had 16 points, Tavin Allison 14 and Terrell Perkins 12 for L'Anse Creuse (6-4, 3-2 MAC White). Will Goodwin scored 18 for East Detroit.
Novi 61, Rochester 49: Max Yanke had 17 points and Naji Ozeir 11 for Novi (9-2). R.J. Kelley scored 16 for Rochester.
Flat Rock 65, Grosse Ile 59: Morgan Billemure had 26 points and Paige Billemure 22 for Flat Rock (10-3, 7-0 Huron). Kate Tobin scored 35 and Margaret Esordi 13 for Grosse Ile (10-1, 6-1).
Waterford Lakes 45, Royal Oak Shrine 39: Tiffany Senerius had 20 points and Alex Troy had 13 points and 11 rebounds for Lakes (6-7, 3-4 Catholic East). Tess Cardlan scored 11 for Shrine.
