Allen Park — Nicholas Towianski played like a senior leader Tuesday night, making sure Woodhaven would end its three-game losing streak.

Towianski attacked the basket and the offensive glass, scoring 23 points and grabbing six second-half offensive rebounds to lead Woodhaven (6-4, 4-3) to a 58-46 Downriver League victory over Allen Park (10-3, 5-2).

The game was 1-10 after one quarter and 22-22 at halftime before Towianski and senior Marrell Pulley came alive and got physical during the second half.

Woodhaven set the tempo with four shots on its first possession of the third quarter, culminating with Towianski making a free throw. Pulley scored off a putback on the next possession for a 25-22 lead.

Woodhaven had 10 offensive rebounds during the third quarter with Towianski and Pulley each grabbing four to open a 37-32 lead. Woodhaven was also in the bonus with a minute left in the quarter and took advantage by making 13 free throws the rest of the way.

"It feels great, especially since we lost our last three games," Towianski said. "We talked about boxing out a lot before the game because that's something we didn't do well during our losses. We just kept attacking the boards and things worked out well for us."

Towianski was at his best during the second half, scoring 16 of his points, 11 in the fourth quarter. He started the fourth with a putback, then scored two straight baskets off penetration moves to open a 44-35 lead with five minutes left.

"I just made the most of my opportunities," Towianski said. "My teammates made good passes and I just scored off of drives."

Pulley and WeShaun Warren scored 11 apiece for Woodhaven.

Sophomore Danny Monear scored 14 for Allen Park which was without its leading scorer, senior guard Antonio Reviere, who averages 20 points but missed the game due to disciplinary reasons.
