Wednesday's roundup: Clintondale gets no-hitter

Clinton Township Clintondale junior Brian Dell needed only five innings to throw a no-hitter in his team's 12-0 win over host Warren Lincoln Wednesday.

Dell (1-0) struck out four batters for Clintondale (3-1, 2-0 MAC Bronze), while hitting two and walking one.

"It was his first varsity performance," Clintondale coach Rob Townsend said of the junior. "He came out firing strikes and found his rhythm."

Jesus Johnson and Chris Williams were both 2-for-3 for Clintondale with two RBIs. The team also drew 13 walks from Lincoln pitchers.

Clintondale had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the first when Johnson tripled them in, giving his team a 2-0 lead.

Dell got into some trouble in the bottom of the fourth. He hit two batters and walked a third. Clintondale escaped the jam with a pickoff and catching two runners attempting to steal.

Lincoln dropped to 0-4, 0-2.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series at 4:30 today.

South Lyon East 3-1, Novi 1-8: Novi split a doubleheader against visiting South Lyon East Wednesday, losing the first game 3-1 and winning the second 8-1.

Evan Eischer earned the win for East, going six innings and giving up two hits, an earned run, while striking out two and walking two. Jac Colliau took the loss for Novi, pitching six innings, giving up an unearned run, while striking out four and walking four.

Brendan Wexler was 2-for-2 with a double for Novi.

Alec Bageris was the winning pitcher in game two for Novi (5-4, 2-1 KLAA Central). He pitched six innings, allowing an earned run on three hits, while striking out six and walking two. Sean Fletcher took the loss for East (1-2-1, 1-1-0). He pitched four innings, allowing four unearned runs on six hits. Fletcher struck out a batter and walked two.

Scott Beaton was 3-for-3 with two RBI for Novi. Mike Mitchell and Colliau were both 2-3. Colliau added a pair of RBI.

Detroit University Prep Science and Math 15, River Rouge 0 (3 innings): Johnny Ballards tossed a no-hitter for Science and Math (1-0). He struck out eight and walked one. Stephon Webster stole home twice for Science and Math. River Rouge is 0-1.

Grosse Pointe South 4, Utica Eisenhower 2: Andrew Fabry pitched a complete game for South (6-0, 2-0 MAC Red). He gave up two runs on six hits while striking out four and walking one. James Fishback was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Ryan Liagre had an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Miko Corzilius went four innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out one and walking one for Eisenhower (2-6, 0-2). KJ Wilk was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Hazel Park 12, Ferndale 11: Jacob Miziko was 4-for-4 with three RBI for Hazel Park (3-2). Marques Hill had two doubles and two RBIs. Nick Melton was 3-for-4 with two RBI for Ferndale (1-1).

Rochester 12, Oxford 1: Jake Scout pitched six innings, giving up one run while striking out nine for Rochester (6-1). Mitch Weber was 2-for-5 with four RBIs and Thomas Loftus was 2-for-4. Oxford is 3-2.

Sterling Heights Stevenson 8, Clinton Township Chippewa Valley 0: Brandon Williams threw a complete game for Stevenson (3-0, 2-0 MAC Red). He gave up five hits, while striking out six and walking one. Williams was also 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Devan Dudal was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and Frank D'Ascenzo was 2-for-2 with an RBIs. Danny Quinn had two hits for Chippewa Valley (3-3, 0-2).

Walled Lake Northern 11, Walled Lake Western 2: Drake Lubin earned the win for Northern (3-1, 1-1 KLAA North). He pitched five innings, giving up no earned runs on two hits while striking out five. Nick Powell was 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and Scott Zychowski was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Western is 0-2, 0-2.

Detroit Renaissance 19, Redford Union 6: Autumn Hoeraus was 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Renaissance (4-0). Erin King had a three-run double. Union is 1-3.

Grosse Pointe South 10, Cass Tech 0 (6 innings): Emma St. John (3-0) had a perfect game — her third no-hitter of the season — for South (4-0). She had 13 strikeouts. Katie Kish and Claire Drew each had two hits and two RBI for South.

Macomb Dakota 4, Warren Regina 2: Kendahl Dunford threw a complete game, allowing two runs and striking out two for Dakota (2-0). Kattie Popko was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Dakota. Kelcie LaTour was 1-for-3 and knocked in a run. Marissa Tiano threw a complete game for Regina (0-2). She also had a double.

Woodhaven 9, Gibraltar Carlson 4: Bri Charron was 2-for-4 with three runs batted in for Woodhaven (8-0). She also earned her sixth win on the mound. Emma Sikina was 3-for-4 with a double and Alyssa Harris also had two hits. Grace Chelemen was 2-for-4 for Carlson (1-3).
