Shawn Pittman Jr. struck out 12 over seven innings as Detroit University Prep earned its first baseball win of the season Friday, defeating Detroit Edison Public School Academy, 8-3.
Johnny Jones went 2-for-3 for University Prep (1-2).
“Johnny had a very good game and was a terrific leader at the catcher position,” coach Donny Herber said. “He made sure all his fielders and teammates were focused and ready to compete at every pitch.”
Pittman also went 2-for-3.
Edison PSA is 0-2.
Clinton Township Clintondale 6, Warren Fitzgerald 5: Jesus Johnson was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored, and Brandon Beasley got the win with four strikeouts over 21/3 innings for Clintondale (8-1, 6-0 MAC Bronze). Caleb Habrek went the distance for Fitzgerald (6-4, 3-3), allowing four hits and striking out nine.
Detroit Central Collegiate 7, Detroit Cody 5: Donte Whitt and Darius Lynum combined for a one-hitter with seven strikeouts, and Austin Hudson was 1-for-2 with two RBIs for Central (1-3). Cody is 0-4.
Detroit East English Village Prep 27, Detroit Denby 3: East English is 4-0.
Detroit Osborn 20, Detroit Collegiate Prep 3: Davario Washington struck out five and hit a double and a triple, and Juan Thomas was 3-for-3 with two doubles for Osborn (3-1). Tavarres Groce struck out five and had two hits for Collegiate Prep (2-2).
Grosse Pointe South 11, Macomb Dakota 0: Andrew Fabry pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts, Ryan Liagre had a home run and three RBIs, James Fishback had three hits and an RBI, and Will Norris had two hits and two RBIs for South (11-1, 5-1 MAC Red). Dakota is 10-5, 3-3.
Sterling Heights Stevenson 4, Warren De La Salle 2: Simon Lidwell struck out 10 in the complete-game victory and also had two hits, Luke McGuire was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Brandon William was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Stevenson.
