Wednesday's roundup: W.L. Northern blanks Kettering

Walled Lake Northern rode the arms of seniors Drake Lubin and Zach Gilbert to back-to-back complete-game shutouts over visiting Waterford Kettering, 7-0 and 8-0, Wednesday in a Kensington Lakes Activities Association North Division baseball doubleheader.

In the opener, Lubin went the distance to record the win, scattering six hits and striking out five. Fellow senior Scott Zychowski aided Lubin's effort with a triple and an RBI.

Gilbert one-upped Lubin's performance in Game 2, tallying nine strikeouts and surrendering three hits over seven innings.

Jordan Anstandig powered Northern (8-3, 5-2) with three hits and two RBIs in the nightcap.

Kettering drops to 7-8, 5-5.

Detroit Cesar Chavez 4, Hamtramck 0: Janiel Montijo struck out eight and walked two in seven shutout innings, and Miguel Guzman went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases for Cesar Chavez (3-7). Hamtramck is 2-7.

Detroit Country Day 12, Royal Oak Shrine 2 (5 inn.): Will Krushena went 3-for-4 with five RBIs and Mike MacLean went 2-for-3 with an RBI and was the winning pitcher for Country Day (6-9). Shrine is 12-3.

Detroit Henry Ford Academy 8-2, Detroit University Prep Science & Math 4-13: In the Game 1 loss, UPSM's Benjamin Nelson Jr. struck out eight and gave up four earned runs in five innings and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Robyn Pettress went 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Joshua Hughes went 2-for-2 with an RBI and four steals. In Game 2, Byron McCants gave up one earned run over four innings with seven strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, Johnny Ballard went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and five steals, Marc Quirles went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and four steals, and Eian Scott went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three steals for UPSM (4-3).

Melvindale ABT 14, Taylor Trillium 4 (5 inn.): Clemente Reinoso went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, Austin Laforet went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Cameron Pope pitched four innings to earn the win for ABT (14-3, 8-1 Michigan Metro). Trillium is 4-3, 2-3.


Dearborn 147, Belleville 208: At Warren Valley Golf Course in Dearborn Heights, Dearborn's Joe Saad earned medalist honors with an even-par 36. Jimmy Monteith, Jack Kearns and Aaron Mei each added a 37 for Dearborn (5-0). Austin Moore shot a 48 to lead Belleville (4-2).


New Baltimore Anchor Bay 2, Sterling Heights Stevenson 2: Whitney Fleming and Claire Allen scored for Anchor Bay (6-1-3, 0-1-2 MAC Red). Jamie Moceri scored twice for Stevenson.


Detroit Community 19-39, Ecorse 13-2: In Game 1, Community's Angel Jones allowed seven hits and struck out seven as the winning pitcher and had three hits and scored three runs, Kambria Cochran had three hits, five steals and five runs scored, and Brianna Wade had seven steals, three hits and two RBIs. In Game 2, Casaundra McInnis tossed a four-hitter with eight strikeouts and had four hits, Wade had four hits, four runs scored and four steals, Jones went 3-for-4 with a triple and five RBIs, and Cochran had a double, three walks and five runs scored for Community (5-2).

Detroit East English Village Prep 21, Detroit Central 6: Angel Jones went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and Abrina Favors went 3-for-4 with four RBIs for East English (2-3-1, 1-3-1 PSL).

Detroit Renaissance 13, Southfield 2 (5 inn.): Chloe Ostoloza gave up two hits and two walks with 13 strikeouts, Kiera Ware went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs, Jazmaine Hammond went 3-for-4 with two triples and a double, and Ann Jones went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Renaissance (15-2).

Detroit Western 13, Detroit Consortium 1 (5 inn.): Alexis Galvan hit a three-run home run and Elizabeth Ludolph struck out 12 for Western (6-7).
