Grosse Pointe North captured the Novi Breast Cancer Tournament with victories over Novi and Rochester Saturday afternoon.

The 6-2 win over Novi was coach Frank Sumbera's 1,000th career victory. He is only the third baseball coach in state history to reach that milestone.

"I feel very fortunate to have been at one school for so many years that gave me the opportunity for this record." Sumbera said. "I had a lot of great kids that helped me over the years. I am very proud of them."

Tristian Richardson pitched five innings, allowing one run and four hits for the win. Dan Robinson led the hitting attack with two hits and an RBI.

In the championship game, North defeated Rochester 9-6. Marquis Harper went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead the offense. Mike Sacchett tossed three innings in relief to gain the win for North. Mitch Weber led Rochester with three hits, including a homer.

North improves to 19-10.
