After a sluggish start to the season, defending Division 4 champ Birmingham Roeper kicked it into high gear Tuesday and raced past host Ferndale, 7-1, in a non-league boys soccer match.
Junior forward Simon Roennecke led the charge with five goals and an assist. He scored four times in the first half and was pulled after netting his fifth two minutes into the second half, pushing his season total to 10 through four games.
Senior Andy Reed added a goal and an assist and freshman Nathan Moskowitz scored once for Roeper (1-3), which lost just once last year en route to winning the school’s first state title in any sport.
Noah Chafin scored for Ferndale (0-1).
