Wyandotte — Wyandotte was looking for revenge after dropping an early-season heartbreaker to Lincoln Park.
It got it.
Led by senior David Long, Wyandotte defeated Lincoln Park, 23-7, at home in the Division 2 district semifinals.
Long finished with 14 carries for 77 yards and two touchdowns.
After a scoreless half, it took most of the third quarter but Wyandotte finally got on the board. Tyler Thorington connected with Hunter Sauve for a 21-yard touchdown with 57 seconds left in the quarter.
“It was a good play call by Coach (Ron) Adams,” Thorington said. “Hunter beat his guy and I just threw it up. He carried his guy into the end zone.”
Wyandotte took a 9-0 lead after Wes Fiema kicked a 30-yard field goal to start the fourth.
Lincoln Park answered when quarterback Steve Glenn ran for a 9-yard score, but that’s as close as it would get.
Thorington finished 3-for-12 with 33 yards and a touchdown, and had six carries for 4 yards.
Allen Woodward had 89 yards on 14 carries for Wyandotte (8-2).
“I missed a ton of throws, but our defense kept us in the game the whole time,” Thorington said. “Lincoln Park has a lot of good athletes. They have a lot of heart and always come fired up to play.”
