Playing two games in two nights can be taxing on a high school team. But not for the Detroit Osborn girls, who beat Detroit International Academy, 55-24, in basketball on Wednesday night.

Osborn lost to Detroit Public Safety Academy, 42-23, on Tuesday.

Maria Martin had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead Osborn (1-1). Savannah Mott and Jada Pierce added seven points each.

“Maria Martin was a big factor,” Osborn coach Gregory Joran said.

Osborn came out strong in the first half, leading 19-6 after the first quarter and 34-15 at halftime.

“We came out fast with high energy,” Joran said. “We decided we were going to take the game to them and not wait for them to come to us.”

He said his defense was a factor. Osborn ran an effective zone all night.

“That paced us for the game,” Joran said. “We controlled the boards.”

He said though it’s still early in the season, the team is starting to show more cohesion.

“They played together tonight,” Joran said. “They played as a team.

“They’re starting to come around.”

Osborn is off until Friday, when it travels to Detroit Cody.

Breynne Snail scored nine and Caitlyn Harrison eight for Detroit International (0-2).
