On Day 4 of the Motor City Roundball Classic, the Frankenmuth boys basketball team defeated Bloomfield Hills 63-59 in overtime Wednesday.

Sophomore Mario Whitley earned MVP honors after finishing with 27 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.

Frankenmuth started the fourth quarter with 6-0 run to go up 43-33, but Bloomfield Hills would come back to tie the score 47-47. With two seconds left in regulation, Bloomfield Hills had the ball and the length of the floor to go, but could not come up with the late-game heroics.

Frankenmuth opened overtime with yet another scoring run, this time 5-0, and found itself up 56-49 with 1:35 left.

Bloomfield Hills would foul Whitley and send him to the free-throw line for the double bonus, and after making one of his two attempts, the score was 61-56 with less than a minute to play in overtime.

Justin Henry of Bloomfield Hills answered with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to two, but Bloomfield Hills had to foul Whitley again to stop the clock.

This time Whitely made both shots.

With two seconds left in overtime, Bloomfield Hills couldn’t sink the desperation shot, giving Frankenmuth the win.

Brody Wood had 15 points for Frankenmuth (4-0).

Kiewuan Graham scored 16 for Bloomfield Hills (3-3).
