Saturday’s roundup: Romulus boys surprise River Rouge

An early Romulus lead snowballed into a blowout as it handed River Rouge its second loss of the season in boys basketball.

D’Angelo Hansbro had 17 points, including four 3-pointers in the first quarter as Romulus built a 17-5 lead, which ballooned to 39-10 by halftime.

Ray Mungo Jr. scored 14 points for Romulus (9-5).

Darian White and David McNair each scored six for River Rouge (15-2).

Detroit Allen 88, Grand Rapids Northpointe Christian 59: Mark Watts had 35 points and Jason Williams added 16 for Allen (12-2). Tyler Baker had 38 for Northpointe Christian (6-6).

Detroit Cornerstone 53, Grand Rapids Union 43: Jamal Cain had 21 points and 18 rebounds and James added 10 points for Cornerstone (7-6). Sergio Diaz had 16 points for Union.

Macomb Dakota 57, Saginaw Arthur Hill 50: At the Northwood Lumberjack Classic, Jermaine Jackson Jr. scored 21 and Thomas Kithier had 10 rebounds and six assists for Dakota (14-0). Billy Burton had 24 points for Arthur Hill.

Southfield Christian 70, Belleville 69: At the Ann Arbor Huron Invitational, Marlo Brown scored 24, Bryce Washington added 23 and Richard Feagin 12 for Southfield Christian (14-1). Davion Williams scored 29 while Trevor Molenda and Devon Alverson each had 13 for Belleville (11-3).

Girls basketball

Ypsilanti Arbor Prep 50, Bay City John Glenn 47: Lauryn Carroll hit a three-pointer at the buzzer for the game winner. Roh’zane Wells had 15 points and Cydney Williams added 11 for Arbor Prep (14-1).

Detroit Country Day 56, Southfield Lathrup 52: Destiny Pitts had 23 points and Kaela Webb scored 12 for Country Day (13-1). Deja Church had 29 for Lathrup.

Boys hockey

Fraser 7, Madison Heights Bishop Foley 3: Lincoln Gray, Jayson Glowe and Chris Wille each scored two goals for Fraser (2-16). Bishop Foley is 2-17-1.
