A big third quarter propelled Utica to a 55-46 win over visiting Macomb Lutheran North on Tuesday night.

Utica outscored Lutheran North, 20-9, in the third, ending the quarter with a 44-33 lead.

“We said that we had to clean some things up defensively,” Utica coach Gerry Kraemer said, describing the first half, which ended with the score tied at 24. “We were kind of inconsistent. We just said that we have to go out there in the third quarter and re-establish ourselves.”

Caden Ebeling had 28 points to lead Utica (11-8). Joe Brown added 15.

“He’s one of our top scorers,” Kraemer said of Ebeling. “He’s been doing this all season.”

Ebeling scored 13, and hit three 3-pointers, in the second half.

Utica led by as much as 11 midway through the fourth quarter, but Lutheran North cut the lead to 49-46 with three minutes left.

Ebeling went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line to close out the win for Utica.

Drew Arft scored 18 and Jack Hilt 11 for Lutheran North (11-8).
