It didn’t happen in the prettiest fashion, but Grosse Pointe South fought its way back from a four-run deficit to walk off with a win on a throwing error to beat Warren Woods Tower, 5-4, Friday.

Down 4-0 early on, South (5-1) scored three runs in the fifth inning before staging its comeback in the seventh.

Alex Parthum singled and Logan Mico attempted to sacrifice him to second base before a throwing error allowed Mico to reach. With men on first and second, a passed ball moved both runners up. Jack Froelich grounded out, scoring Parthum to tie the game. With two outs, Davis Graham put the ball in play and another throwing error allowed the winning run to score.

“In high school baseball, when you put the ball in play, you’re going to be dangerous,” South coach Dan Griesbaum said. “We’re still not playing the way we’re capable of playing, but it’s early-season baseball. Everyone will get better.”

Mark Schneider was the winning pitcher, tossing two scoreless innings. Will Poplawski and Froelich each had two RBIs for South.
