Saturday’s roundup: Ann Arbor Richard, Cranbrook split in baseball

Bloomfield Hills – Scott Granzotto pitched 6.1 innings, allowing four hits and striking out 12 as Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard defeated Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood 6-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the second game, Tristan Knoer tossed 7.1 innings, giving up two runs and four hits, and Jordyn Finney and Josh Yellen each had two hits for Cranbrook in its 5-2 victory.

Gabriel Richard is 5-2 and Cranbrook Kingswood is 3-5.

Birmingham Groves 10-11, Utica 1-8: Noah Zacharias pitched 5 2/3 innings in the first game, allowing five hits and striking out five. Eight players had hits in the second game for Groves (4-1). Zavier Warren had five hits and three walks for Groves.

Detroit Country Day 11-10, Troy 1-7: In the opener, Devin Beach went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Steve Mann had two hits and three stolen bases. In the nightcap, Mann went 2-for-5 with three RBI and Beach went 3-for-3 with four RBI for Country Day (8-2).

Grosse Pointe Woods Liggett 19-12, Decatur 1-1: In the doubleheader, Noah Miller went 8-for-8 with nine RBI, Connor McCarron went 6-for-8 and Anthony George tossed a complete game with seven strikeouts in the nightcap for Liggett (4-0).

Hartland 8-5, Novi 2-4: John Baker went 3-for-4 with four RBI and Alex Vydick had three hits and scored two runs for Hartland. Scott Beaton and Jack Reilly had two hits each for Novi (7-5).

Melvindale ABT 5, Taylor Prep 2: ZjZjai Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Melvindale ABT (4-4, 3-0 MMAC), and Thomas Chandler pitched a complete game, giving up three hits, striking out 17 and allowing one earned run. For Taylor Prep (1-1, 0-1), Scott Sabuda had all three of his team’s hits and one RBI.
