It wasn’t pretty, but Warren Woods Tower came away with a 5-4 Macomb Area Conference crossover softball win over visiting New Haven on Wednesday evening.

The game went just four-plus innings, being called by the umpires in the top of the fifth because of rain.

Inclement weather didn’t slow down winning pitcher Hannah Chaffee, though, as she pitched the whole game, striking out four.

“Hannah pitched really well,” Tower coach Lance Sell said. “We tried to keep the ball dry. It was difficult for both pitchers.”

Besides the weather playing a factor in the sloppy game, it had no shortage of intrigue as Tower took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first before New Haven (8-1) roared back to take a 3-2 lead into the fourth.

Tower scored three times in the bottom of the fourth to take a 5-3 lead.

Tori Iannucci and Alyssa Agueros hit singles for Tower (12-6).

“We need to be more consistent at the plate,” Sell said. “We have to make sure we are aggressive at the plate and continue to be strong defensively.”

Tower will travel to Warren Mott on Thursday for a MAC Gold battle.
