With the baseball playoffs approaching, Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett coach Dan Cimini wants to make sure his team remains focused on the task at hand.

Liggett followed through, taking care of visiting U-D Jesuit Wednesday, 7-2.

“Staying consistent,” Cimini said of his team’s goal. “We need to stay within ourselves and not worry about who we are playing next.”

Sean Fannon threw a two-hitter and allowed one earned run for Liggett (23-1), striking out two.

“(Sean) was throwing a one-hitter until the fifth,” Cimini said. “He had great command of his pitches.”

Fannon allowed a two-out walk in the fifth and the runner eventually came around to score for U-D on a throwing error, closing the gap to 4-1.

Liggett responded by scoring three runs in the sixth.

U-D added a solo home run with two outs in the seventh.

“We played very good defense,” Cimini said. “I’m very happy with how our guys played. We have no selfish guys, and that’s the best thing.”

“RBI machine” Noah Miller went 3-for-3 with two RBIs.

Liggett will host Rockford for a doubleheader on Saturday.

Birmingham Groves 4, Birmingham Seaholm 2: Andre Mailing pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out three; Zavier Warren was 4-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored; Max Novick was 2-for-4 with two RBIs; and George Cutler had a hit, walk and sacrifice fly for Groves (23-7, 11-3 OAA White).

Warren De La Salle 13, Troy 3: Bryce Bush was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, and Mac Graybill was 3-for-3 with a double for De La Salle (15-11).
