Farmington took advantage of a Pontiac Notre Dame Prep team resting some pitchers for its Catholic League C-D championship game on Thursday, teeing off for a 12-1 baseball victory on Wednesday evening.

Notre Dame is looking to down Riverview Gabriel Richard for the C-D title at Comerica Park, but Wednesday just wasn’t its night.

Elliott Edsall came out firing for Farmington (26-9), allowing just three hits while striking out three over six innings.

“He came out in total control,” Farmington coach Pete Finn said. “Elliott had all of his pitches working and kept (Notre Dame) off balance. He forced a lot of ground balls.”

Farmington spread out its scoring over five innings. It scored two in the top of the first and second innings, four in the third, then two more in the fourth and seventh.

Artie Bentley had three hits and drove in two runs for Farmington.

“(Bentley) had a real productive day,” Finn said. “He tripled in his last at-bat after fouling the previous pitch off. He made a nice adjustment and turned on it.”

Notre Dame (12-18) will be playing at 10 a.m. at Comerica Park Thursday, while Farmington will host Milford for a doubleheader.

“We have some pretty good competition coming up,” Finn said. “I’d like us to work on some things defensively.”
