Saturday's roundup: Liggett tops Cranbrook, De La Salle

Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett won its own baseball tournament on Saturday with wins over Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook, 4-2, and Warren De La Salle, 5-1.

Against Cranbrook, Connor McCarron pitched four innings of hitless relief, with five strikeouts. Matthew Gushee went 2-for-3, including the winning RBI on a two-run double in the fifth inning.

In the win over De La Salle, Anthony George pitched 6.1 innings, allowing one run and four hits with three strikeouts. Sean Fannon went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two runs, and Alec Azar was 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Liggett is 25-4.

Gaylord 4, Birmingham Groves 1: Xavier Warren had three hits for Groves (29-9), which lost its second straight for the first time this season.

Lake Orion 16, Notre Dame Prep 8: Ryan Crue went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI, Ian Simek was 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Mike Falter was 3-for-4 for Lake Orion. For Notre Dame Prep, Joey Agro and Ryan Knutson both went 2-for-4 with two RBI, and Ben Mancini was 3-for-4 with two runs.

Notre Dame Prep 11, Lowell 9: Andrew Carpenter had a solo homer, Lucas Cusac went 2-for-3 with three runs, and Tom Cavanaugh went 2-for-4 with two runs for Notre Dame Prep. Freshman catcher Mike Lau drove in Notre Dame Prep’s final run with a single. Jack Krausmann went 4.2 innings to pick up his fifth win and Kory Czajkowski got his third save.

Melvindale ABT 26, Detroit Cesar Chavez 11: Rene Juarez had a home run and eight RBI, and Thomas Chandler keyed a five-run first inning with a two-run double for ABT (23-4). Chandler had three RBI, as did Cameron Pope and Clemente Reinoso. Cesar Chavez is 3-12.
