Cherokee Franklin delivered the winning RBI single Friday, and with it, something much bigger to Detroit Henry Ford as it walked off with its first district championship in softball, 14-13 over Detroit Cesar Chavez.

“It was a great feeling,” Henry Ford coach Tiffany Jackson said. “We had a really rough season.”

Henry Ford (5-7) outlasted Detroit Mumford in an earlier MHSAA Division 2 semifinal, 16-13, before Franklin’s heroics took center stage in the nightcap.

Tiera Thomas had herself a ballgame as well, going 4-for-4 for the cycle with three RBIs.

Cesar Chavez led 7-2 in the third inning before Henry Ford climbed back into the game with a five-run frame.

Division 1

Grosse Pointe North 8, Roseville 1: Tristin Richardson went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Steve Kent went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for North. Richardson threw a four-hitter and struck out seven.

Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett 10, Detroit Edison 0 (6 inn.): Anthony George pitched all six innings, striking out 12 while allowing just one hit. Sean Fannon went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and Will Morrison went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and three runs scored for Liggett (27-4).
