Detroit — East English Village Prep showed no mercy against Central Collegiate in a 42-6 victory in Detroit Public School League football on Friday.

Both teams entered the game with 1-1 records and were looking to gain some ground in the PSL.

The game started slow but East English took a 7-0 lead with 4:12 left in the first quarter on a 10-yard touchdown run by junior running back Zhamaine March. That would not be March’s last touchdown of the game.

After the first quarter, Collegiate had no answer as East English dominated at the line of scrimmage as well as in the air.

East English head coach Rod Oden said he was pleased with his team.

“We had a game plan of establishing the run game today and that’s exactly what we did,” Oden said. “Our run game was able to open up the passing game, which we had a lot of success in.”

Penalties and turnovers ruined Central’s effort.

Assistant coach Tim Hopkins said the team is young and he expects it get better.

“We’re playing mostly juniors and sophomores,” Hopkins said. “We only have four seniors on the team and three of them play.”

East English took a 22-0 lead at the half.

Whenever Central looked to get back in the game, East English had an answer.

At the start of the second half Central was marching down the field when an interception by senior defensive back Samuel Womack ended the threat in East English territory.

On the following drive, March found the end zone again on a 13-yard run, giving East English a 29-0 lead.

March finished the game with 175 total yards and four touchdowns.

Junior running back Demetrius Christian had 16 carries for 183 yards for Central and added 12 solo tackles and a sack on defense.

Junior quarterback El-Julian Jordan, a transfer from the defending Division 2 state champion Detroit King, was 8-for-12 for 164 yards and one touchdown.
