Hamtramck and Detroit Cass Tech played Wednesday in a boys soccer matchup between teams from two schools that share extremely close ties with Detroit City FC, at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, the current home of Le Rouge.

Hamtramck won easily, 8-1. in a rematch of the regular season opener for both teams. Hamtramck shut out Cass Tech, 8-0, on Aug. 23.

“They wanted to show us that they were a lot better than they were in the first game,” said Hamtramck assistant coach George Chomakov, who is also a midfielder for DCFC. “I’m glad our guys kept working hard and got the victory.”

DCFC played at Cass Tech from 2012-15, before moving to Keyworth prior to the start of the 2016 season. Supporters of Le Rouge, some of whom were in attendance on Wednesday, took to social media earlier in the week to promote the game.

“The kids were excited,” Chomakov said. “Any time you get a lot of fans on the field, you’re always excited. They kept their focus all week leading up to the game. It showed their true character.”

Jahid Hassan scored three times, while Wusim Muthana and his brother Wasim Muthana each added two more to lead Hamtramck (7-1-2). Baseem Ali also had a goal.

Hamtramck led 2-0 at halftime, and did not stop there. Hassan scored all three of his goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, putting Hamtramck ahead 6-0. Cass Tech got its goal late in the half, but Hamtramck quickly responded with two more.

“In the second half we showed our full potential,” Chomakov said.

Hamtramck heads to Ypsilanti on Friday for a matchup against Ypsilanti Arbor Prep Academy.
