Detroit C.C. prevails over Brother Rice in double OT
Detroit Catholic Central's Austin Brown found Matt Young for a 10-yard TD strike in double overtime, helping settle an evenly matched high school football encounter with Birmingham Brother Rice Saturday at Hurley Field.
Detroit C.C. stopped Brother Rice on the ensuing possession to preserve a 28-21 victory and remain undefeated. Brother Rice's Marcellus Gaines scored on a 5-yard run with 5:30 left in regulation to tie it 14-14.
In OT, Rice's Matthew Jordan scored on a 5-yard pass from Mariano Valenti. C.C.'s Cameron Ryan replied with a 1-yard run to make it 21-21.
Detroit C.C. (5-0, 1-0 Catholic League) led 14-0 in the first half on scoring runs by Nicholas Capatina (12 yards) and Ryan (3 yards). Jordan made a 4-yard scoring catch in the third quarter before Gaines tied it.
Brother Rice (3-2, 1-1) had 239 yards in offense to C.C.'s 233.
