Dearborn kept its conference championship hopes alive when Ramsey Hamzey scored a goal with just over a minute remaining to edge Western Wayne Athletic Conference foe Belleville, 1-0, in boys soccer Monday night.
With the win, Dearborn (8-4-2, 4-1) keeps itself in the conversation as it chases Dearborn Heights Crestwood and Dearborn Fordson, who are both 5-0 in the league.
“We started off really slow,” Dearborn coach Aaron Pfeil said. “Earlier in the season, we may have sat back and been happy with a tie, but I’m so happy we were able to fight through.”
Hamzey received the ball from 35 yards out, made a 10-yard run forward and beat four defenders before striking the ball into the right side of the net for his fifth goal of the season.
Jamil Chami had five saves for Dearborn, recording his fifth shutout of the season.
