Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard won its fourth straight soccer game in a defensive battle at Dearborn Heights Crestwood, 1-0, on Thursday.

Gabriel Richard (15-4-2, 4-1-1 Catholic League) scored with 15 minutes left in the first half when outside midfielder David Schoenle headed in a rebound on a cross that was initially saved.

From there, Gabriel Richard relied on strong defense to shut out Crestwood (8-4-2, 3-0-1 Western Wayne). Goalie Patrick Flaherty only had to make four saves to notch the clean sheet.

Gabriel Richard coach Carlos Calderon was happy to have a nonleague tuneup game before district playoffs start.

“We really wanted a good game against a quality opponent to get ready for districts,” Calderon said. “We were able to work on some things we’ve been working on in practice.”

Gabriel Richard starts district play on Monday against Jackson Lumen Christi.
