Grosse Pointe South defeated visiting Grosse Pointe North, 24-14, on Friday, to move on to the Division 2 regional finals in the MHSAA state playoffs.

South (8-3) was led offensively by quarterback Logan Mico, who was 7-for-11 passing with 123 yards and two touchdowns, plus a 1-yard touchdown plunge.

“Logan’s been our field general all year,” South coach Tim Brandon said. “He’s a great leader. He changes the plays, so it’s like having another coach on the field.”

The game turned in the second quarter, when Davis Graham intercepted a North pass, setting up South at North’s 25 yard-line. South’s Michael Braker scored on the next play, putting South up 14-7.

The win avenges South’s loss to North earlier this year, an 8-4 heartbreaker.

“Our theme all week has been redemption. We felt we were the better team, so we were looking forward to this. It was a solid game on both sides of the ball,” Brandon said.

Jhordan Rush led South’s running game, racking up 121 yards on 27 carries.

“Our offensive line was great tonight. They plowed the way for Jhordan,” Brandon said.

Jack Doerer and Davis Graham recorded nine tackles each, pacing South’s defense.

Jared Jordan stood out for North (8-3), with a touchdown and 171 yards on 26 rushes.
