Thursday’s roundup: Balanced attack lifts Cass Tech
Detroit Cass Tech had three players in double digits in its 70-55 win at Detroit Renaissance on Thursday.
Senior combo guard Leonard Silas had 18 points, junior combo guard Marcus Gibbs added 16 and senior combo guard TeRonni Cook had 12 for Cass Tech (4-1, 2-0 PSL West Division 1).
Cass Tech led the whole way, taking a 35-23 lead into the half.
“They stayed within striking distance,” Cass Tech coach Steve Hill said. “It never got to the point where it was out of hand, but we had a comfortable lead the whole way.”
He said the Cass Tech offense runs smoothly through Silas, who is 5-foot-10, Gibbs, who is 6-foot, and Cook, who is 6-foot-2.
“I think they’re all well-rounded players,” Hill said. “Sometimes it varies from game to game. We try to adjust (the offense) to who does well each day, but they play well off each other.”
Cass Tech plays Farmington Hills Harrison at Detroit King on Tuesday in the Holiday Hoops Classic.
It then plays Walled Lake Central on Friday at Renaissance in the five-day, multiple-site Motor City Roundball Classic.
Chandler Turner scored 24 to lead Renaissance (0-4, 0-2), which plays Detroit University Prep in the Holiday Hoops Classic on Tuesday, before taking on Walled Lake Northern in the Roundball Classic on Thursday.
