Monday's roundup: East English stays hot

Detroit East English Village is having an exceptional start to the 2016 basketball season.

After Monday's 92-77 win over Wayne Memorial at the PSL Holiday Hoops Classic at Detroit King, East English is 5-0.

Wayne Memorial (4-1) held a 12-8 lead with about 3:48 left to go in the first quarter and was able to hold that lead at the end of the first with a score of 22-19.

At one point in the first quarter, East English senior guard Greg Elliot threw down a monster slam that electrified the crowd and gave his team momentum going into the second quarter, and it trailed 43-42 at the half.

David DeJulius, a Michigan commitment, and Elliot stole the show in the second half.

At one point in the second half, DeJulius made 11 straight baskets and had 31 points with 2:58 left in the third quarter. Elliot was able to join in on the fun as well as he pitched in with 25 points to close out the third.

East English took a 77-57 lead going into the fourth quarter.

At the end, DeJulius and Elliot combined to score a total of 73 points. DeJulius scored 41, going 16-for-23 from the field and 4-for-9 behind the arc. Elliot scored 32 on 10-for-16 shooting and also grabbed 10 rebounds.

Rashad Williams of Wayne Memorial led his team with 32 points.

Detroit Frederick Douglass 70, Farmington 65: Douglass (4-1) was down 18 points in the second half, but won as Kelly Broadus finished the game with 30 points, Jarnard Smith Jr. had 19 points and Carlos Byars-Walker had 18 points. Jordan Graham had 24 points and 13 rebounds, Jay Kirby scored 20 and Tyrell Jackson-Davis had 14 points for Farmington (3-3).

Detroit King 68, Jalen Rose Leadership Academy 41: Jesse Scarber led all scorers with 19 points, JaQuon Robinson had 12 points, Kemon Bassett scored 10 and Jordan Whitford had nine points and eight assists for King (6-0). Anthony Ball scored 18 for Rose Academy (2-4).

Detroit Western 65, Detroit Cornerstone 55: Lorne Bowman had 18 points and Rayvon Simpson scored 16 for Western (1-3). Tray Jackson had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Rob Carpenter had 18 points for Cornerstone (3-1).

Detroit Renaissance 66, Southfield A&T 51: Nnenna Nnaji had 20 points, Dalyn Henderson scored 15 and Nina Reynolds had 12 points and 13 rebounds for Renaissance (6-1). Cheyenne McEvans finished with 18 points, Alexis Johnson had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Deja Church had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Southfield A&T (3-2).
