Rochester Hills Stoney Creek was able to get a couple of defensive stops down the stretch and hold off Auburn Hills Avondale 55-51 in an Oakland Activities Association crossover boys basketball game Monday.

Trailing 54-51, Avondale had two chances to tie the score in the final 30 seconds, but Stoney Creek (8-3) was able to force contested shots to preserve the victory in a game that was tight throughout.

Nate Davis led the way for Stoney Creek with 21 points, while Michael Melaragni poured in 15 and Tanner Dean 12.

Tied 40-40 going into the fourth quarter, Stoney Creek coach Steve Norgrove turned to Dean and fellow senior guard Evan Becker to keep his team composed down the stretch.

“They really controlled the pace of the game in our favor when we needed it,” Norgrove said. “When we focus on each possession it allows us to manage the game, and see the value in the possession as opposed to be playing for the final score.”

Dreshawn Allen and Dominic Kejbou scored 16 each to lead Avondale (6-3).
