Brandon Green scored 19 to push Detroit Mumford past Detroit Frederick Douglass, 54-49, in boys basketball on Thursday.

Douglass (13-5, 9-2 PSL East II) cut Mumford’s lead to a pair with two minutes remaining, but Mumford went 4-for-5 on free throws in the last minute and a half to ice the game.

Mumford coach Eric Floyd was pleased with Green’s performance.

“He’s my leader on offense and defense,” Floyd said. “He got his teammates involved with five or six assists, and he was patient, taking what the defense was giving him.”

Mumford jumped out to a 8-0 lead to start the game, but after a timeout, Mumford answered with a 7-0 run.

“Teams will always go on runs, but we’ve got to withstand it. Now I’m just trying to get them ramped up for districts,” Floyd said.

Ashaunti Dillon had 10 points for Mumford.

Jarnard Smith was Douglass' leading scorer with 13.

Mumford (8-9, 1-7 PSL West I) plays at Detroit Central on Friday. Douglass heads to Detroit Cornerstone on Friday, Feb. 24.
