Thursday’s roundup: Fitzgerald steals a win over Fraser

Haneef Minus stole the ball at midcourt and took it in for a layup with less than two minutes left, leading Warren Fitzgerald to a boys basketball win over Fraser, 50-43, on Thursday.

Minus was the game’s co-leading scorer with teammate Carl Pettway. They each had 17.

“Minus is a true point guard, but tonight he scored more when we needed it,” Fitzgerald coach Joe Kopicki said.

Fraser (6-12, 3-7 MAC Gold) cut Fitzgerald’s lead to one at the end of the third quarter, but Fitzgerald (10-8, 4-6 MAC Blue) was able to pull away in the fourth.

Connor Ferguson was Fraser’s leading scorer with 15.

“I can’t criticize the kids’ effort. It wasn’t the prettiest win, but this time of year, we’ll take any win we can get,” Kopicki said.

Fitzgerald plays at St. Clair Shores Lakeview on Tuesday.
