Wednesday's prep roundup: S.H. Stevenson pounds out baseball win

Junior pitcher Bryce Dudal threw a three-hit, complete game to lead Sterling Heights Stevenson to a 6-1 victory over New Baltimore Anchor Bay on Wednesday afternoon.

“Dudal pitched great,” Sterling Heights Stevenson coach Joe Emanuele said. “He’s a very crafty left-hander, and he kept them off-balance all day. They hit a lot of fly outs because he kept them on their front foot.”

When Anchor Bay (1-5, 0-2 MAC Red) batters reached base, they had trouble staying there as Dudal caught two Anchor Bay baserunners with his deadly pickoff move.

“We played very clean baseball. We didn’t make any errors and didn’t allow a baserunner to get to second until the seventh inning,” Emanuele said.

The game was mostly a defensive battle, with Stevenson (9-1, 2-0) making the most out of their seven hits.

Standing out offensively for Stevenson was junior third baseman Ryan Lux, whose two-RBI single in the fourth inning put his team up 4-0.

Senior second baseman Steve Tamburro had a single and a double, and senior catcher Todd Taterd hit a single and scored a run for Stevenson.

Emanuele thinks his team needs to score more runs to sustain its winning ways.

“We’ve got to swing the bats a little better. We’re playing good defense, and we’re winning with pitching, but we’ve got to get better at the plate,” Emanuele said.
