Monday’s prep roundup: Liggett’s King pitches 1-hitter

Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett sophomore pitcher Logan King tossed a complete game in an 11-0 win over Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest in Michigan Independent Athletic Conference Blue division play Monday afternoon.

King, who moved to 4-0 on the season, struck out 10 and allowed just one hit. It was a slow roller that was just out of his third baseman’s reach in the fourth inning that prevented a no-hitter.

“He pounded the strike zone and had all of his good pitches working,” Liggett coach Dan Cimini said. “He’s looked fantastic this year. I love it.”

Connor McCarron went 4-for-4 with four RBIs for Liggett. He belted a two-run home run in the first inning to put his team up 3-0. After three more runs in the fourth, Liggett put the game out of reach with a five-run seventh inning.

Liggett (17-1, 8-0) was coming off its first loss of the year, a setback against Portage Northern during the weekend. But Cimini liked the way his team bounced back.

“I just liked our competitiveness,” he said. “The guys bounced back like nothing happened, and that’s what good teams do. It was a good day.”

Teddy Wujek went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored for Liggett.
