Friday’s prep roundup: Pitching is key to Cranbrook victory
Strong defense and pitching led Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood past visiting Royal Oak on Friday evening, 4-3.
While the pitching and defense stole the show, the biggest play of the game happened to be a walk-off RBI single by Trevor McConnell in the bottom of the seventh for Cranbrook-Kingswood (7-15).
Griffin Levine got the threat started with a one-out single and Theo Pistner came in as a pinch-runner. Pistner stole second base and McConnell proceeded to drive him in.
McConnell also got the start for Cranbrook-Kingswood, pitching five innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs.
“Trevor had an outstanding performance,” Cranbrook-Kingswood coach Andy Fairman said. “He was locating his pitches very well and kept hitters off-balance.”
Max Musyj got the win in relief, pitching two innings and allowing just two hits and a run. McConnell finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
“We had a good day fielding,” Fairman said. “Pitching and defense (stood out) for sure.”
Brennan Harbert pitched six innings for Royal Oak (13-3), allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out two.
