New Baltimore Anchor Bay set another school record on Tuesday night after beating St. Clair Shores Lake Shore, 4-1, to advance to the Division 1 girls soccer regional final.
Despite the three-goal victory, which set the school record for wins in a season, Anchor Bay (18-1-4) head coach Kevin Grammens felt focus was lacking.
“Our mental mindset will be better Thursday (in the regional final),” Grammens said. “(Our focus) could have definitely been better.”
Kayla Polisano led the way for Anchor Bay, though, scoring two goals. Rachel Russo and Lindsey Shira each scored one.
Carlie Barone helped out with three assists, Bri Rumps added two and Bella Hunter recorded one for Anchor Bay.
“Kayla (Polisano) finished with two goals and had a couple more chances,” Grammens said of his top performer. “She kind of put the game away.”
Lake Shore finished the season 15-6-2.
On top of the school record for single-season win total, Anchor Bay also has a record holder in goal. Ally Gaunt has set the school’s mark for shutouts in a season with 14.
Although she didn’t have one Tuesday, she played well enough to give her team the chance to win.
“We did what we had to do,” Grammens said. “We finished when we had to.”
Anchor Bay will face Utica Ford, which beat Troy, 3-2, in a shootout Tuesday on Thursday evening at Utica High School.
