A Grand Ledge (Mich.) High School freshman football player died Monday following a voluntary football workout, the school said.
According to a statement released by Grand Ledge Public Schools superintendent Dr. Brian Metcalf, Everson Guild lost consciousness during a “routine” football workout.
“Coaches rushed to his side, giving CPR and using an automatic external defibrillator,” Metcalf said.
Metcalf said Grand Ledge police and fire responded and Guild was transported to Sparrow Hospital.
“Words cannot begin to express our sorrow over the loss of this young man,” Metcalf said in the statement. “Our hearts go out to his family, his friends and his teammates and we will do everything within our power to ease their grief.”
