Michigan State among new suitors for 4-star Tyrone Sampson
Detroit East English center Tyrone Sampson, the No. 4 player on The Detroit News Blue Chip list, has decided not to enroll early in college, he told The News.
Sampson’s decision follows his decommitment from Syracuse last week.
The four-star Sampson has a new list of schools that interest him, including Michigan State, Arizona, Mississippi, Western Michigan, Toledo and Rutgers. Syracuse is also still on Sampson's list.
On Dec. 20, the first day of the early signing period, East English coach Ron Oden told The News that Sampson had a change of heart and would sign on Feb. 7 — National Signing Day.
“He just felt coming down the stretch that he committed too early, didn’t really get to go through the whole process; all he really knew was Syracuse and wanted to see a couple of different schools,” Oden said then of Sampson, who is 6-foot-3 and 295 pounds, and is ranked the No. 7 center in the nation for the 2018 class by 247Sports.
Sampson said he is in the process of arranging official visits for January.
Sampson was a four-year starter for East English, which averaged 270 rushing yards per game this season.
