Tuesday's prep roundup: Renaissance outlasts Cass Tech

A pair of juniors helped Detroit Renaissance get a bit of revenge against Detroit Cass Tech as it held on for a 60-57 win in Detroit Public School League West Division 1 play on Tuesday.
Carrington McCaskill had 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Chandler Turner knocked down some big free throws down the stretch for Renaissance (6-4, 2-2). Turner finished with 19 points and eight rebounds, going 11-for-15 from the charity stripe.
“That’s been our Achilles heel lately,” Renaissance coach Jordan Vito said of his team’s free throw shooting. “That was a veteran team we were playing. They weren’t going to go away. It was just a battle, but we were fortunate to come out on top.”
The win avenged two losses Renaissance suffered against Cass Tech last year, and Vito said games like this are a sign of his team’s growth.
“A win like this is huge because we’re learning how to win close games,” Vito said. “Over the last two years, we’ve lost 10 games by less than four points. We’ve got to learn how to close out games and we can be pretty good come march.”
Tyson Acuff paced Cass Tech (8-2, 2-2) with 11 points.
