Saturday's prep roundup: Riverview Richard advances in Catholic League playoffs

Garrett Balazsi had 17 points and Eric Wigginton added 16 to lead Riverview Gabriel Richard to a 59-48 victory over Royal Oak Shrine in a Catholic League playoff boys basketball game.


Gabriel Richard advances to play Madison Heights Bishop Foley in the C-D Division semifinals Wednesday. The C-D and A-B division semifinals will take place at Birmingham Marian High. The C-D final is 1 p.m. Sunday at the University of Detroit Calihan Hall with the A-B championship following at 3 p.m.

Anthony Massucci had 16 points and A.J. Massucci 11 points for Shrine.

Cranbrook Kingswood 55, Everest Collegiate 49: Tim Hauxwell scored 16 and Alex Finney 14 for Kingswood (15-1), which plays Waterford Lakes on Tuesday in the C-D semifinals. Kaman Nallamouthu and J.C. James each had 13 points for Everest (7-10).

Detroit Catholic Central 49, Dearborn Divine Child 48: Justin Rukat and Davis Lukomski each scored 12 for Catholic Central (11-5), which plays De La Salle in the A-B semifinals on Wednesday.

Orchard Lake St. Mary's 40, Detroit Loyola 37: Lorne Bowman scored 21 to lead St. Mary's (11-6), which plays U-D Jesuit in the A-B semifinals on Tuesday. Myron Gardner finished with 22 points for Loyola (11-6).

Warren De La Salle 60, Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard 44: Luke Pfromm scored 19 and Jordan Winowiecki added 11 for De La Salle (12-5), which plays Detroit Catholic Central in the A-B semifinals on Wednesday. Andrew Kendzicky had 11 points for Gabriel Richard (5-12).

Girls basketball

Macomb Dakota 54, Grosse Pointe North 42: Taylor Williams scored 20 and Cam Grant added 11 for Dakota (16-3) in the Macomb Area Conference Red Division tournament championship final.

Royal Oak 40, Rochester 31: Samantha Potter had 10 points and nine rebounds for Royal Oak (16-2, 11-1 OAA White). Jenna Norgrove had 11 points for Rochester (2-15, 2-10).
