Saturday's prep roundup: Weems powers New Haven in win

Junior Romeo Weems continues to prove why he is considered one of the top players in the country, leading New Haven to an emphatic 89-54 victory over St. Clair Shores Lake Shore in the Macomb Area Conference Blue Gold championship Saturday.

Weems' final stat line: 37 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, six steals and five blocks.

The 6-foot-7 forward was part a well-rounded cast firing on all cylinders for the defending state Class B champions. Tavares Oliver scored 17, Ashton Sherrell 16 and Ronald Jeffery 14 for New Haven (19-0), which is riding a 45-game winning streak.

Caleb Bates led Lake Shore with 25 points.

Clarkston 69, Southfield A&T 19: C.J. Robinson scored 18 and Foster Loyer 15 for Clarkston. Terrell Humes Kenzer had 11 points for Southfield A&T (1-17, 1-6 OAA Red).

Detroit Mumford 65, Detroit Catholic Central 45: Brandon Green had 22 points, Anthony Taylor 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Miquan Terry 10 points for Mumford (14-1). Catholic Central falls to 11-6.

Hazel Park 60, Detroit Old Redford 59: Devon Pettus scored 22 points for Hazel Park (17-1). Rocket Watts had 30 points for Old Redford.

Detroit Edison 76, Detroit Cody 46: Ashley Primas scored 28, Oretha Humphries 12 and Darionna Little had 10 points and 12 rebounds for Edison (17-1).
