Dearborn Fordson girls basketball is having one of its best seasons, and it got a little better on Friday, when it defeated Livonia Stevenson 46-41 for its first district title since 1999.

Fordson (21-2) was led by Rena Elhusseini with 18 points and six assists. Kiki Darwiche added 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Those two have been the leaders for this Fordson team all season. Elhusseini scored her 1,000th point of the season in the previous game, a 54-33 district semifinal win over Detroit Cody.

Fordson made it to the district final last year before losing to Dearborn. But this season is much different. The only two losses this season were to Northville and Dearborn Divine Child, and its winning streak is now 15.

Fordson will take on Detroit Renaissance at Southfield A&T in a class A regional game at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
