Rod Heard, a cornerback / running back from Farmington Hills Harrison, announced his commitment to Northwestern’s 2019 recruiting class on Sunday.

Michigan and Purdue were among the schools to offer Heard (5-10, 170), who is rated a three-star prospect on the 247Sports Composite.

Heard is ranked the No. 91 cornerback nationally and No. 27 in Michigan for the 2019 class.

Last season, Heard rushed for 1,542 yards and 26 touchdowns on offense and broke up nine passes on defense for Harrison.

“It’s been a long ride over the years and I’ve had numerous people help me get to the point that I am at today,” Heard wrote on Twitter. “… I would like to thank all of the college coaches/recruiters that have invested their time recruiting me and creating great relationships, especially coach (Pat) Fitzgerald and the rest of the Northwestern coaching staff who believed in the player I am while giving me the opportunity to play for them. All of this to say, I would like to announce my commitment to Northwestern University.”
