Freshman pitcher Jordan Kavanagh shook off a 150-pitch performance late Monday night to come back and lead Clinton Township Chippewa Valley to an 11-1 win over St. Clair Shores Lake Shore on Tuesday.

Kavanagh pitched all five innings for Chippewa Valley (9-2, 2-0 MAC White) in a game that ended because of high-school softball’s mercy rule. She struck out nine, and she even chipped in with her bat, driving in two runs to help her own cause.

“It didn’t even phase her today,” Chippewa Valley coach Claire Kapral said of Kavanagh’s 150-pitch outing that ended less than 24 hours before she took the mound again. “I was thinking about (sitting her), but I talked to her in school and she assured me she wanted to start.”

“We’ve gotten lucky with her. She contributes at the plate and on the mound.”

Alisa Twoney had two hits and two RBI for Chippewa Valley, which used an eight-run third inning to break things open against Lake Shore.
