The train kept rolling for the Walled Lake Northern girls soccer team on Thursday as it traveled to Waterford Kettering and secured its 10th straight win with a 7-0 victory.
After getting out to a quick 3-0 lead within the first 10 minutes, Northern was held in check for a good chunk of the first half and early second half before closing strong with four more goals.
Dani Wolfe, a Michigan commit, scored two goals with four assists and Ellie Rogers, a Michigan State pledge, had three goals and three assists for Northern’s (10-0) aggressive attack.
Taking a business-like approach to each game is important for Northern’s success moving forward, coach Drew Drummond said.
“We have a really strong core,” Drummond said. “The seniors are doing a great job leading and the freshmen have really stepped up in addition.”
The target on Northern’s back is growing as the team continues to win in impressive fashion. But that’s not something Drummond wants to worry about.
“I’d rather be an underdog,” Drummond said. “We’re confident in our system and as long as the girls stick to their roles, we’ll be successful.”
Northern has been cruising through the first half of its schedule, but there’s still work to do.
“I wouldn’t say we’re a well-oiled machine,” Drummond said. “ Every day we’re getting a little better and more comfortable.”
Northern will look to improve to 11-0 on Friday with a road game against Rochester Adams.
