Birmingham Groves split a pair of games against rival Walled Lake schools, losing to Northern 14-9 before defeating Central 7-3 Saturday in a final tune-up before this week's state baseball playoffs.

Groves (23-9) plays Bloomfield Hills in a pre-district game on Tuesday.

"Hopefully, we'll be more prepared to make a run at something in the playoffs," Groves coach Shawn Morrison said. 

Noah Stants went 3-for-4 while Tommy Larson was 1-for-2 with a home run for Northern (23-12). Groves' Roger Motley had three hits, including a homer.

Against Central, George Cutler homered and Chaise Ford doubled for Groves while Ari Sherman picked up the win.
