Baseball America chief thinks Trammell belongs in Hall

The Detroit News

Count the editor of the leading baseball publication among those who believes Alan Trammell belongs in the Hall of Fame.

John Manuel, editor-in-chief of Baseball America, includes the Tigers shortstop on his ballot, if he was eligible to vote.

Manuel became a Baseball Writers Association of America member this year. Only members who've been active for at least 10 consecutive years are eligible to vote for the Hall.

Of Trammell, Manuel writes, "Trammell's consistent excellence for championship-caliber teams, and the fact the 1984 Tigers don't have a Hall of Famer (and I believe he's that team's best candidate) put him over the top on my ballot."

Also on Manuel's ballot:

Jeff Bagwell

Craig Biggio

Barry Bonds

Roger Clemens

Randy Johnson

Pedro Martinez

Mike Piazza

Curt Schilling

John Smoltz

"I'm glad I don't have a real ballot yet — this is a very difficult ballot," Manuel wrote.
