Lakeland, Fla. – Just three springs ago, righthander Luke Putkonen was one of the rising prospects in the Tigers system.

On Saturday, his employment with the Tigers was terminated.

Putkonen, a non-roster invitee this spring, was sent to minor league camp for assignment on March 17. He was released outright Saturday morning.

An elbow injury kept him off the field for most of last season, though it didn't require Tommy John surgery. He struggled in his brief appearance this spring (3.1 innings, 7.36 ERA).

In parts of three seasons with the Tigers, he was 1-5 with a 4.66 ERA.
