Detroit — The Tigers apparently know the fate of closer Joe Nathan; but after the 13-4 loss to the Yankees Wednesday, manager Brad Ausmus wasn't ready to disclose it.

"We're going to hold off before we make any announcement on that," he said.

Nathan had to leave his rehab appearance in Toledo after throwing just 10 pitches. He said he felt a pop in his forearm — a pop, he said, that felt like what he imagined a broken arm would feel like.

"I'm not going to get into exactly what he's getting done because I'm sure he'd have to get more than one test and probably be looked at by multiple people," Ausmus said before the game. "We'll wait for that to happen. That's in the process of starting right now."

Ausmus, though, did get at least a preliminary diagnosis Wednesday night. Apparently, there will be an announcement before the afternoon game against the Yankees Thursday.
