Detroit — Tigers slugger J.D. Martinez seemed like he was turning the corner at the plate.

And now he's injured.

Martinez, the right fielder, left Wednesday night's game with lower-back tightness and is listed as day-to-day.

He had two hits off Twins starter Ricky Nolasco, but had to be pinch-hit for by Rajai Davis in the sixth inning.

Any long-term absence of Martinez would be bad news for the Tigers, who already are playing with a less-than-100-percent Victor Martinez, and could be without Alex Avila until July or even longer.

On the season, J.D. Martinez is batting .236/.304/.463 with a team-high seven home runs and 16 RBIs.

He homered in the Tigers' 2-1, 10-inning victory Tuesday over the Twins.
