Cincinnati — Designated hitter Victor Martinez will be activated before the Tigers play the Yankees Friday night.

"I talked to him," manager Brad Ausmus said before Thursday's game against the Reds was rained out. "He says he feels good. He seems to feel like he's ready. I would have been more surprised if he said he wasn't ready."

Martinez, out since May 19 with left knee soreness, went 5 for 17 in four rehab starts. He scored a run, had a double and knocked in three runs.

Outfielder Tyler Collins was optioned to Toledo to make room for Martinez. Collins hit .275 with an .805 OPS in 51 at-bats with the Tigers, with two home runs and seven RBIs.
